In a world where modernity often overshadows the beauty of history, this project takes us on a journey to blend the charm of 1908 with the functionality of 2023. Welcome to the reveal of a historic kitchen transformation that I hope you will love as much as we do!

Bringing the Past to Life-

Our journey started with the desire to honor the kitchen's roots. We began by opening up a separate laundry and pantry area and incorporated it into the general kitchen space. This move not only maximized functionality but also paid homage to the past when kitchens were the heart of the home.

We replaced the subfloor with new plywood, laid a heat mat before tile to always keep the space cozy.

A Touch of Wooden Elegance

One of the standout features of this makeover is the addition of wooden beams. These beams not only add warmth and some nature but also draw the eye upward, making the space feel larger and more inviting. They serve as a bridge between the old and the new, connecting the historical charm with contemporary design.

A Mudroom Oasis

The enclosed porch area underwent a dramatic transformation, evolving into a mudroom that exudes both practicality and style. Built-in benches, reminiscent of those in the dining room, offer a comfortable seating area for family and guests. It's the perfect spot to put on your shoes, hang your coat, or simply take a moment with your morning coffee to appreciate the view.

Seamless Simplicity with Panel-Ready Appliances

To maintain the builtin, uncluttered look, we opted for panel-ready appliances. This design choice ensures that modern amenities seamlessly blend into the cabinetry, preserving the kitchen's timeless appeal.

Daringly Dark Cabinetry

In a bold design move, we painted all the cabinetry black. This decision adds a layer of drama and sophistication to the kitchen while creating a striking contrast with the natural wood tones and white walls. The pantry, built-in benches and beams bring the warmth and character of the wood so the kitchen feels very purposefully done.

A Dramatic Flourish

To add a touch of artistry to this transformation, we introduced an incredible wall mural from Thibaut. This stunning mural is a conversation starter and a visual focal point that ties the entire space together.

Ceiling Details and Texture

Our quest for character led us to install beadboard on the ceiling, adding a classic, textural element to the room. On the sink wall, vertical nickel board paneling (shiplap) creates a unique backdrop, elevating the space's visual appeal.

Countertops That Tell a Story

The choice of countertops plays a significant role in this makeover. We opted for marble countertops, which exude luxury and timelessness. In the laundry area, we introduced butcher block countertops, a nod to practicality and a reminder of the kitchen's functional roots.

This historic kitchen makeover is a testament to the harmonious coexistence of the past and the present. The fusion of 1908 with 2023 has resulted in a space that not only respects its heritage but also embraces the needs of modern living. #1908Meets2023 has truly brought this kitchen back to life, creating a space where history and contemporary design seamlessly intertwine, and where every corner tells a story of beauty and functionality.
